The construction department is solely in charge of all construction projects. It is headed by a Construction Supervisor who manages all ground work and ensures smooth construction works from project initiation to completion under considerable savings as we do not use outside contractors. Tony Coren Gategi Project include construction of classrooms, latrines, kitchens and other building work in schools due to existing poor infrastructure. The state of affairs of some schools was so desperate characterized by makeshift sort of classrooms. Pupils could suffer from pneumonia, cold, flu and other diseases caused by the severe early morning cold. Pupil's attention to learning was impaired because of distractions from outside through the open walls. This was very common especially in scheme ('Ngwata':settlement area, settled by very needy, poor and low income inhabitants) in Makima Location.

Construction of schools is also done in other ares of our jurisdiction; Gategi, Karaba and Riakanau Sub-locations. Following our leader's forum held in every December, public awareness is created on project programs. Schools with infrastructural needs such as classrooms, latrines and other school amenities make applications which are presented to the Management board for vetting, verification and determination.

Successful applicants are notified and adequately furnished with the way forward for commencement of construction.

Since the commencement of the program, over 20 schools have benefited with eithher a block of 3 or 4 classrooms with over 50 classrooms having been constructed. Over the years, the quality of classrooms constructed has improved significantly. In situations where the school sanitation is in bad condition, the project assists in construction of better pit latrines for the pupils. Construction of classrooms and pit latrines in schools has considerably improved Pupil retention in school enrollment. In case of destruction of infrastructure caused by natural calamities for instance floods and whirling winds the project comes to assist. In all these construction interventions done, the institution does not incur expenses towards construction. In recent times, the Project has constructed footbridges across two seasonal streams. This was necessistated by the drowning of school going children by raging waters of one of the seasonal streams.

not only have the footbridges been of help to the school going children but also to the entire community at large. This initiative has been welcomed cordially by the community. After construction the Project officially hands in the complete utility to the school fraternity and stakeholders. A plague is fixed on one part to commemorate and identify the utility constructed.
