A great percentage of the population in Makima and Gategi locations are living below the poverty line. The Project observed that some members of the community were living in deplorable conditions of extreme poverty. it is with this in mind that the humanitarian department was created with the sole responsibility of identifying the dire cases that need immediate attention.

The humanitarian and social welfare officers carry out home visits to the highlighted desperate cases by the community members. A profile is compiled, recommendation made and forwarded to the management board who directs on the way forward.

There are a few children somehow abandoned by their parents and are under care of guardians. The project pays for their upkeep in school and during holidays.
